Our Family's Roots
The Briny's family roots run deep in the restaurant industry. Our journey began in 1983 when Mum and Dad, Karen and Dave Les Grandes Fromages, opened their first restaurant, Rosie's Vineyard. With a focus on wine and French Bistro inspired food, accompanied by live jazz, Rosie's quickly became the hot ticket for Friday nights. After 25 years, Rosie's was sold, and abarbistro in Old Portsmouth was born.
With a focus on seafood and the same signature excellent service, abarbistro became a local favourite. Not content to rest on their laurels, Mum and Dad soon embarked on a new project, Camber Wines, a wine wholesaler and retail outlet that offers customers the opportunity to taste wines before dining.
Now, as adoring grandparents to Oscar, Maggie, Molly, and Margot, Karen and Dave are enjoying taking a less active role in the business, leaving it in the capable hands of their children.
The Next Generation
Lucy and Bill, having met at Rosie's, returned to their seaside roots and took over the running of the Tenth Hole Tearooms. After five years of graft, they won the tender for what is now The Canteen. Lucy and Bill stumbled across the site for The Briny whilst house hunting and couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap up this incredible spot on the Southsea coastline.
Joining forces with the rest of the family to bring together all of their expertise, Lucy, Bill, Steve, and Katie are excited to welcome you to The Briny. We can't wait to share our passion for food, drink, and excellent customer service with you.
Our Services
At The Briny, we offer a range of services to suit all tastes and occasions. From our a la carte menu to our shellfish platters, we have something for everyone. We also offer gift vouchers, perfect for that special occasion.
In addition, we host regular events, including Jazz Sundays, where you can enjoy live jazz music whilst dining. Keep an eye on our website for upcoming events.
We look forward to welcoming you to The Briny soon.
