Poppies Child Care is a private day nursery facility located on the outskirts of Workington in Lillyhall, West Cumbria. Owned and managed by Adele Williams and her friendly, approachable team, our nursery offers a fun, friendly, and professional child care service for children aged between 3 months and 8 years. Our aim is to support families who wish to extend their child's social and educational development through a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment.
Our Rooms
Here at Poppies Child Care, we have three specially designed rooms to cater to the different ages and stages of your child's development:
*Baby Room (3 months - 2 years)*
Our baby room is a large open plan room, registered for up to six children, that encourages exploration and learning with the support of caring staff. This room is divided into three main areas: the entrance and messy play area, a large play area in the centre, and a sleep area. We ensure that our babies have regular access to our secure outdoor play area, giving them plenty of opportunities to explore their natural environment and spend time in the fresh air. Our staff-to-baby ratio ensures that each child receives a high level of care and attention, building strong relationships with their key person.
*Toddler Room (18 months - 3 years)*
Our toddler room accommodates up to ten children and is arranged to allow them to explore freely using their imagination and independence. The large area has space for both quiet activities and more messy and energetic play, giving the children ample opportunities to explore and experiment with the activities, equipment, and resources on offer. Our dedicated key staff members ensure consistency for the children and meet their individual needs through well-planned experiences. Activities are planned to promote each child's development and achievements, in line with the EYFS Framework.
*Pre-School (3-4 years)*
Our pre-school provision offers funded early years education for up to eight children, with the curriculum overseen by the nursery manager and delivered by two key staff members. Together, they help your child discover their own strengths, both academically and creatively. In this room, we focus on preparing your child for school, with activities designed to promote independence, social skills, and a love for learning. As with our other rooms, all activities are planned in line with the EYFS Framework, and your child's progress is regularly recorded and shared with you.
Outdoor Provision
At Poppies Child Care, we believe that outdoor play is an essential part of a child's development. We have a large secure outdoor play area which includes a grassed area with various play equipment, a climbing apparatus with safety surfaces, and a soft pore area with ride-on toys. Our outdoor area also provides two separate undercover spaces for outdoor learning during rainy days, as well as a range of equipment for children to promote their physical skills. Children are encouraged to use a range of equipment to promote their physical skills including wheeled toys, climbing equipment, bats and balls, bean bags and hoops. For those children who prefer a bit of quiet time, we have cosy areas with cushions and books to allow children to chill and relax.
