We Create Great Design How? It's not "Rocket Science".
Welcome to Frogfurlong Cottage, a charming country guest house situated in the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside. Our establishment is nestled near the village of Down Hatherley and is within easy reach of Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, the Cotswold Hills, and the Malvern Hills. We are proud to offer a comfortable and peaceful retreat for those looking to explore the local area or simply enjoy a relaxing break.
Frogfurlong Cottage is located in a green-belt area, within the triangle formed by Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Tewkesbury. The cottage itself is what remains of a collection of 18th-century cottages, which were originally rented to the owner's siblings for a 'peppercorn rent'. Over the years, three of the original five cottages have been knocked down, leaving the remaining two to be extended and modernised into the comfortable and self-contained cottages that you see today.
Our Rooms
Each of our rooms has been thoughtfully decorated and equipped with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Many years ago, the Courtyard Room housed the farm pigs, while the pony and trap were kept in the Garden Room. Today, these rooms have been transformed into comfortable and peaceful retreats, complete with en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.
Frogfurlong History
Frogfurlong Cottage is steeped in history, with the name 'Frogfurlong' said to have originated in the 18th century. While no official documents explain its meaning, the postman often receives mail addressed to "Frog Fell on Cottage" and "Frog Fellow Cottage", much to his amusement. The village of Down Hatherley has a long history too, listed as Athelai in the Domesday Book of 1086. Notable residents include Button Gwinnett, the second signatory on the United States Declaration of Independence.
In addition, John Stafford Smith, who lived in Gloucester around 1780, composed a melody originally called "The Anacreontic Song". Frances Scott Key later set this melody to her poem, which became the national anthem of the United States in 1931. It is now more famously known as The Star Spangled Banner.
