Unlocking Talent, Unlocking Growth

Ripon Museum Trust is an independent educational charity dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of Ripon through its three museums. Established in 1981, the Trust has been at the forefront of preserving Ripon's heritage for over four decades. Our museums are run by a dedicated team of volunteers, committed to providing an exceptional experience for all visitors.

Our Museums

The Workhouse Museum & Garden, the Courthouse Museum, and the Prison & Police Museum offer a unique insight into the lives of the poor and lawless in Victorian England. Step into the Workhouse and experience life as one of the poorest people in society, walk through the Courthouse and learn about the administration of justice, or explore the Prison & Police Museum and discover the history of law enforcement in Ripon.

Events and Exhibitions

At Ripon Museums, we believe in making history come alive. We host a variety of events, exhibitions, and holiday activities for children throughout the year. From the Ripon Heritage Ghost Walk to the Ripon Theatre Festival, there's always something new to experience at our museums.

Education and Outreach

We are committed to making history accessible to all. We offer group visits, school visits, and family visits, designed to engage and educate visitors of all ages. Our learning community outreach and digital learning programs bring history into the classroom, while our Museums from home initiative allows those who can't visit us in person to still engage with our collections.

Support Us

Our supporters are vital in helping us preserve the important heritage at our three museum sites. Please consider making a donation or volunteering your time to support our work. Your contribution helps us to keep our buildings and collections in good condition and to offer visitors a great experience.

Our Collection

Our collection tells the story of Ripon from its earliest days to the present. From loan boxes to temporary exhibitions, we offer a variety of ways for visitors to engage with our collection. Stories from the Workhouse, a digital platform showcasing objects from the Workhouse Museum's collection, offers a unique insight into life in a Victorian workhouse.

We are located in the heart of Ripon, a historic city in North Yorkshire, England. Our museums are easily accessible by public transport, and we offer audio guides and accessibility provisions to ensure that all visitors can enjoy their visit.
