At Fallen Giants, we are dedicated to transforming found wooden objects into enduring contemporary furniture designs. We believe that every piece of wood has the potential for a second life, and it is our job to find it. Our mission is to encourage a shift towards more thoughtful consumption, reduce waste, and create furniture that tells a story.

Our process involves repurposing timber from found wooden objects into contemporary furniture designs. We believe in the beauty of reclaimed wood, as it comes from old trees that are often protected, making it no longer readily available in today's timber yards. Reclaimed wood tends to be older, making it more stable and resulting in stronger furniture pieces. We embrace the 'imperfections' of reclaimed timber, such as cracks, screw holes, and saw cuts, and incorporate them into our designs, creating intriguing features. Moreover, using reclaimed timber means that we don't have to cut down any more trees, which is always a good thing.

Our Story

I am Johnny Tyson, the owner and chief maker of Fallen Giants. I have always loved making things and reusing found objects. My journey began with working as a graphic designer, then training as a wooden boat builder. Rowing my boat out to sea remains one of my proudest moments. Later, while working for a company producing designer kitchens, I learned the techniques of cabinet making but was appalled by the waste involved. This led me to become interested in how wood can tell a story, of how it grows, how it has been used, and how this can give the maker new ideas for what it can be made into.

I started collecting discarded wood and started making my own furniture from it. Friends and family began asking me to make similar furniture for them, and the idea for Fallen Giants was born. I now have my own workshop in Sheffield, where I live with my wife and daughter.

How We Work

At Fallen Giants, we offer two ways to own our furniture. You can commission us to make something for you, or you can buy our ready-made furniture that we find, design, and make. Regardless of which option you choose, our goal is to create furniture that tells a story and endures for years to come.

Bespoke Projects

Commission us to make something for you, and we will work with you to create a piece of furniture that is tailored to your needs. We take pride in working closely with our clients to understand their vision and create a piece that reflects their style and personality. Whether it's a sideboard, a cabinet, or anything in between, we will work with you every step of the way to create a piece that you will love.

Ready-Made Furniture

We also offer ready-made furniture that we find, design, and make. These pieces are unique, and we take great care in selecting the reclaimed wood that we use. Each piece tells a story of its own, showcasing the beauty of reclaimed wood and the intriguing features that come with it. All you have to do is buy it and love it.
