At Chorleywood Golf Club, we are proud to be Hertfordshire's oldest golf club, founded in 1890. Our beautiful 9-hole course is set in the heart of Chorleywood Common, offering a fair and demanding challenge for golfers of all levels and experience. As a small, friendly community club, we welcome visitors, societies, and new members alike, making us an ideal destination for a round of golf.
Our History
Our rich history dates back to the late 19th century, when the club was founded in 1890. In the early days, our members included wealthy London gentry who would travel to us from the capital via the newly constructed Metropolitan Line. The original 18-hole course was later reduced to 9 holes in 1922, with the help of renowned golfer and course architect James Braid. Over the years, our course has played host to some remarkable events, including World War I's Bombing School using the Common and the course serving as an emergency first aid post during World War II. Our centenary was celebrated in 1990 with the opening of our new clubhouse.
Our Course
Our 9-hole course is a fair but demanding challenge for golfers of all abilities. With its unique blend of holes, you'll encounter a mix of doglegged par-4s, challenging par-3s, and longer par-5s. Our course is well-drained, ensuring that we are rarely closed, and the first tee is usually never busy. With its picturesque setting and varied holes, our course is an ideal destination for a round of golf.
