The Old Smithy Recording Studios, established in 1977, have been providing top-quality recording and mixing services for over 45 years. As one of the largest recording studios in the West Midlands, we take pride in our custom-built facility that boasts a spacious control room and an expansive live room. Our decades of experience in recording range from solo artists to choirs and orchestras, making us an ideal location for any type of recording and mixing projects.
Our outstanding acoustics, designed by Keith Slaughter of Abbey Road and Odyssey Studios, state-of-the-art technology, and professional, experienced engineers ensure that we capture every last detail of your performance with confidence. We currently run a hybrid Studio One / Pro Tools system that allows us to provide a seamless recording experience. Our acoustically balanced control room is equipped with soffit-mounted Quested/ATC far-fields and custom-built nearfield speakers for precise monitoring.
Our live room is not only spacious, but it is also home to a stunning 7ft Rosewood Steinway grand piano that has been used on countless recordings during its time at The Old Smithy Recording Studio. We can record up to 24 simultaneous tracks at a wonderful 32 bit 96kHz resolution, giving you the freedom to set up and play live to capture your performance or build everything up layer by layer.
