General & Tube Engineering is a well-established family business that has been leading the way in the welding and fabrication sector for over 30 years. Located in the North West of England, we pride ourselves on our technical know-how and highly experienced workforce, mastering welding and fabricating using mild steel and stainless steel to provide excellent service and products across the region.

Our History

The business was set up by Geoff Townshend over 30 years ago, with his vast experience in engineering, and has continued to grow and thrive through the years. Today, Mark Townshend, Geoff's son, carries on the tradition of providing exceptional service and technical expertise. From humble beginnings in a small unit in Bury, we have expanded to a larger unit in Swinton, Wardley Industrial Estate, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including multiple steel cutting bays, guillotines, welding bays, drilling stations, bending machines, grinding and polishing bays, and a full powder coating paint plant.

Our vision is to continue moving forward and growing as a family business, providing the service our customers have come to know and expect. With Mark Townshend, as Managing Director, and his sons, Dale and Ben, working as integral parts of our staff, we are committed to maintaining our high standards of quality and reliability.

Our Services

At General & Tube Engineering, we offer a comprehensive range of services, including welding and fabrication, sheet and general fabrication, tube manipulation, and handrail and bending vehicle conversion. Our skilled engineers are experts in Mig and Tig welding on a variety of metals, including mild and stainless steel, and can create functional, strong, and perfectly formed welds time after time. We also provide bespoke fabrication services, working closely with our clients to design and manufacture bespoke items to meet their specific needs.
