A Brief History
The Edwardian Bedding Company was established in 1978 by Percy Edwards, who grew the business throughout the 80s and 90s and enjoyed much success. Percy retired in 2002, and the business was purchased by his Manager, George Crofts, and George's friend, David Taylor. Under their leadership, the company concentrated on specialist mattresses, particularly for boat applications, and quickly became market leaders in this sector.
In 2014, Vicki Shaw purchased the company, with the help of Adrian Swingler and Robert Kilner. Vicki's partner, Adrian, had many years of success with the Bedtime group, which included shops such as Parkgate and York Road Doncaster. He retired in 2006 to concentrate on horse racing. In 2010, Bedtime started opening shops again, and it was during this period that Adrian found that the quality of mattresses was not what it used to be due to the rise of online retailers.
To address this issue, the pair purchased Edwardian Bedding in 2014 and brought on Robert Kilner, who had experience with Bumbles Pine and top-quality pine furniture manufacturing for his shops. With Adrian focused on finding new outlets and Robert running the factory and showroom, the team was able to update the range with the same commitment to quality. In the ensuing years, new machinery was added, and purchasing power was improved, resulting in reduced prices on many models. We now have stores in Mexborough, Malton, Hornsea, Shrewsbury, and Leyburn.
