Handcrafted Ceramic Tiles & Bespoke Designs in Cotswold
Established in 1994, Jaafar Designs is a Cotswold-based studio specialising in hand-painted ceramic tiles using an ancient Persian glaze system. Our team has spent over two decades perfecting vibrant, glossy finishes rarely seen in modern ceramics. Each tile undergoes 120 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, combining traditional techniques with contemporary design. We pride ourselves on creating unique pieces that add personality to kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces. Our work has been featured in Channel 4's Grand Designs, including a bespoke treehouse project that inspired new wildlife-themed collections.Sustainability is central to our practice, with recycled materials, renewable energy kilns, and carbon-conscious studio design. We hold the tile industry's top award for 'British Wall Tile of the Year' and have created custom pieces for celebrities, royalty, and public art installations. Our process allows for full personalisation, from colour swaps to completely bespoke designs. All tiles are sealed before dispatch for waterproof durability, except gift items. We maintain strict quality control through in-house production using locally sourced materials.

Services
Hand-painted ceramic tiles
Each tile undergoes meticulous hand-painting using our proprietary Persian glaze system. These waterproof wall tiles combine ancient techniques with modern design aesthetics. Customers can choose from established patterns or request custom variations in size, colour, and composition. The glazing process creates unique glossy finishes that maintain vibrancy over time. Ideal for both contemporary and traditional interiors, these tiles transform kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces into artistic environments.
Bespoke tile murals
We create large-scale ceramic tile panels tailored to specific spaces and visions. From initial concept to installation, our artists develop cohesive designs that become room focal points. This service accommodates both residential and commercial projects, with options for varying tile sizes and configurations. The murals maintain waterproof properties for bathroom and kitchen applications. Recent commissions include shower wall installations and yacht interior features.
Kitchen splashbacks
Our splashbacks combine functional protection with artistic expression. Available in standard and custom dimensions, these tiles resist water and heat while adding visual interest. The sealed glaze surface requires minimal maintenance. Customers can select from existing patterns or collaborate on unique designs that complement their kitchen decor. The tiles integrate seamlessly with various cabinet styles and worktop materials.
Eco-friendly production
Our studio prioritises environmental responsibility throughout production. We use locally sourced materials and recycled packaging while operating kilns with renewable energy. The treehouse studio design incorporates energy-efficient construction methods. We actively plant trees to offset carbon emissions and maintain eco-conscious operations. This commitment extends to product longevity, reducing the need for replacements.
Gift tile commissions
We offer smaller decorative tiles designed specifically as gifts. These include coasters and hanging art pieces featuring our signature glaze techniques. While similar in design to our larger tiles, these items are specially priced for gift-giving occasions. The Etsy shop provides direct access to curated gift collections. These items maintain the same artistic quality while serving as more accessible entry points to our work.
