Achieve, Challenge, Enjoy - Empowering Young Minds to Succeed
Welcome to Ysgol y Ddraig, a two form entry English medium primary school located in the historic town of Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan. Since our establishment in 2015, we have been dedicated to providing an inclusive, engaging, and respectful learning environment that enables all of our children to achieve, challenge, and enjoy their learning journey. Our school is part of the Llantwit Learning Community and boasts a purpose-built 21st-century school site that supports our vision of nurturing and inspiring the next generation of ambitious, capable learners.
Our Headteacher, Miss Rebecca Cadman, leads a team of committed and enthusiastic staff who prioritize the needs of children above all else. Our ethos is built on the core principles of achieving high aspirations, maintaining high expectations, and fostering a culture of respect for all. We are fortunate to have the support of our families and the wider community, who share in our vision of creating responsible, active, and confident citizens of the future.
Our Services
At Ysgol y Ddraig, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of all of our learners. Our curriculum is built around the Four Purposes of the new Curriculum for Wales: ambitious, capable learners; enterprising, creative contributors; ethical and informed citizens; and healthy, confident individuals. Through our ACE Curriculum, we provide opportunities for children to grow their knowledge, skills, and experiences as they work towards becoming ambitious, capable learners.
Our curriculum is further enriched through extra-curricular clubs, such as Digi-Dragons, Wellbeing Gang, Community Champions, Learning Leaders, Diversity Dragons, Criw Cymraeg, and Eco Warriors. These clubs provide opportunities for children to engage in learning beyond the classroom and to develop their skills and interests in a supportive and inclusive environment.
We are committed to supporting the wellbeing and mental health of all of our learners. Our Wellbeing Gang champions the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing, while our Speech, Language, and Communication support ensures that all learners have access to the communication skills they need to succeed.
Our Uniform Policies and Wrap Around Care services provide a consistent and supportive framework for learners, while our School Day ensures that all learners have access to the same opportunities and experiences. Our School Improvement Plan, Estyn Report, PDG ALN, and Admissions policies are designed to ensure that all learners have access to the support and resources they need to succeed.
Our Community
At Ysgol y Ddraig, we are proud of the strong relationships we have with our local community. Our Cymuned y Ddraig (PTA) and Family Learning services provide opportunities for parents and families to engage in the learning journey of their children. Our Bocs Bwyd y Ddraig service supports the provision of healthy and nutritious meals for all of our learners.
As a school, we are dedicated to our own professional development so that we are always able to prepare children for the ever-changing world in which we live. We strive to create a learning environment that is inclusive, engaging, and supportive for all of our learners.
