Nestled in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Holmeshead Farm is a traditional hill farm of great character, offering a warm and welcoming B&B experience near Skelwith Bridge. Our picturesque location, just above the tiny hamlet of Skelwith Fold, is isolated, peaceful, and quiet, yet only a 10-minute drive from the bustling centre of Ambleside, one of Lakeland's major tourist hubs.

A Traditional Lake District Farm

Our farm, with its 17th-century farmhouse, is a place where you can unwind and rejuvenate in a beautiful, unspoiled setting. The farm rears sheep, and our friendly farm dogs will greet you warmly. Take a stroll around the undulating lawns, and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Bed and Breakfast

Our bed and breakfast is renowned for its comfort and character. All our rooms are south-facing, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Each room is tastefully decorated, with en-suite shower rooms, tea/coffee trays, televisions, hair dryers, and alarm clock/radios. Wi-Fi is available, and we offer a generous full English breakfast, with vegetarian and special dietary options available.

Self-Catering Caravan

We now offer a unique self-catering caravan, perfectly situated near the farmhouse. Enjoy the freedom to explore the Lake District while still having the comfort and amenities of a home from home.

Horse Holidays

Bring your horse and ride the Lake District! Our farm offers stables for your horse(s) or you can graze them in one of our safe fields. We also offer haylage and straw for your equine friends. Our rates start from 14 per night per horse, in addition to your bed and breakfast cost.

Local Area

Ambleside, our nearest town, is a charming town with a rich history and culture. Visit the local shops, cafes, and pubs, or take a stroll along the shores of Lake Windermere. Hawkshead, another nearby village, is a traffic-free haven of history and natural beauty.

Directions

To reach Holmeshead Farm, take the A593 from Ambleside towards Coniston. Turn left at the sign to Hawkshead, then right onto a narrow road running alongside the river. At the T-junction, turn left, and after 400 metres, you will see the sign for Holmeshead Farm. Turn left into the drive.
