Melton's Restaurant

Meltons is a fine dining restaurant located in the heart of York, established in June 1990 by Michael and Lucy Hjort. Michael, a proud Yorkshireman, trained with Roux Restaurants in the 1980s, a time when they dominated the restaurant scene. His love for food and his roots brought him back to York, where he opened Melton's Restaurant with his wife Lucy, who still manages the Front of House.

The restaurant is renowned for serving modern British food, made with locally sourced, fresh ingredients. Michael's position as Chef Proprietor quickly made Melton's one of York's leading restaurants. The kitchen is now led by Head Chef Calvin Miller, who has worked with Michael for over 14 years, continuing to provide high-quality food in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Meltons is proud to be featured in all the major food guides and is known for its commitment to seasonality, sustainability, and supporting the local and regional economy. Michael's focus on these values extends beyond Melton's, as he is one of the principal organisers of the York Food Festival and the Festival Director since 1997.

Our Menu

Meltons offers a 3-course menu for 78 per person, which includes canapes, homemade breads, and filtered still water. The menu changes regularly to reflect the best seasonal ingredients.

Fine Wine

Meltons boasts a selection of fine wine, carefully chosen and maintained by owners Michael and Lucy. The wine list includes essentials such as Champagne and Sparkling Wine, Whites from New Zealand, France and Spain, and Reds from Burgundy, Australia, and Italy. We offer wines by the glass and half bottle, with a constantly updated wine list featuring over 120 different bottles from around the world.
