Talking can: Help bring understanding. Help you find a way through.

Stockport Community Counselling is a registered charity that has been providing confidential and non-judgmental counselling services to individuals over 18 years of age of all faiths (or none) since 1989. Our organisation was previously known as Stockport Christian Counselling but we changed our name in February 2024 to reflect our commitment to providing a service that is inclusive of all people, regardless of their beliefs or background.

We are staffed entirely by volunteers, comprising trained counsellors, qualified listeners, professional supervisors, administrative staff, and a management committee. Our counsellors have trained and studied to obtain recognised counselling qualifications, and we abide by the BACP and ACC Code of Ethics.

What Is Counselling?

Counselling is a professional service that provides a safe and confidential space for individuals to talk about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to talk to someone who is not close to their situation, someone who is qualified to help them work through their difficulties.

We understand that life can be challenging, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. Family and friends can offer support, but sometimes, talking to a professional can be helpful. Our counsellors are trained to listen actively, empathetically, and professionally, without judgment or bias.

We offer counselling services to individuals, couples, and groups. We do not discriminate based on race, sexual orientation, gender, or religion. Our aim is to provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where individuals can explore their thoughts and feelings, and work towards finding a way through their difficulties.
