Established in 1993, Nippon UK has grown into one of the UK's largest family martial arts organisations. Our mission is to bring together children and adults through traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu, Kickboxing, and Weapons Classes, instilling values of discipline, respect, and integrity. Led by Senseis Peter (6th Dan) and Katheryne (2nd Dan) Sharples, our team of Enhanced DBS-checked instructors deliver award-winning tuition across the North West. We pride ourselves on continuous internal training, including our Junior Leader Coaching Award Scheme, which develops future martial arts teachers.With onsite facilities including the 'Brew Jitsu' cafe and free WiFi at our Preston Dojo, we provide a welcoming environment for all ages. Our commitment to safety is evidenced by Level 3 Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding Children certifications. Ju Jitsu
Traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu classes for ages 4+ develop self-defence skills, physical fitness, and mental discipline. Our structured syllabus caters to all levels from beginners to advanced practitioners. Students progress through belt rankings while learning respect, control, and traditional martial arts values.
Kickboxing
High-energy Kickboxing classes combine martial arts techniques with cardiovascular training. Suitable for ages 5+, these sessions improve coordination, strength, and confidence while teaching practical self-defence moves in a safe, supervised environment.
Weapons Classes
Specialist Weapons Classes teach traditional martial arts weaponry techniques to students aged 9+. These sessions enhance focus, precision, and understanding of historical combat methods while building on existing martial arts foundations.
Black Belt Academy
Dedicated Black Belt Academy prepares brown belt students for black belt examinations. This advanced programme refines technical skills, deepens understanding of martial arts principles, and develops leadership abilities through intensive training sessions.
Personal Tuition

What martial arts do you teach?
We offer Traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu, Kickboxing, and Weapons Classes for ages 4+ at our Preston Dojo and multiple primary schools across the North West.
What should I wear for my first lesson?
Beginners should wear comfortable sports clothing. Official Nippon UK Gis and T-shirts are available for purchase after your first few lessons.
How much does training cost?
Each class costs £8.00 (pay-as-you-go). Membership fees of £35-£45 apply after your fifth lesson, with gradings priced at £35-£45 annually.
Are your instructors qualified?
All instructors are Enhanced DBS checked, with Level 3 Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding Children certifications. Our senior instructors hold 2nd to 6th Dan black belts.
Do you offer children's classes?
Yes! We provide age-specific Ju Jitsu and Kickboxing classes for children aged 4+ including our popular Little Ninjas programme and Junior Leader Coaching Scheme.
Where are your training locations?
Our flagship Preston Dojo offers full facilities. We also operate in 12 primary schools across the North West, plus Hesketh Bank Community Centre.
