Join us in preserving the heart of Bakewell for future generations!

At Bakewell Town & Community Trust, we believe that the Town Hall is an integral part of the community, and we are committed to providing facilities and activities that cater to a broad range of users. Our story began in the 1880s when the town badly needed a new Town Hall, and the local masonic Lodge, the Dorothy Vernon Lodge, spearheaded the movement to build a new hall. The result was a public company that was incorporated in 1889, raising an initial capital sum of 3500. The Town Hall was built in the Gothic style, designed by George E Statham, and was officially opened by the Duke of Rutland on 18th September 1890.

Over the years, the Town Hall has played host to a wide range of activities, including theatre performances, live comedy, music, craft fairs, and community groups. We are proud to offer a unique and diverse range of facilities, including our original theatre, the Town Council, and Registrars. Our Assembly Room, Council Chamber, Court Room, and Gallery are available for hire, making us the perfect venue for weddings, conferences, and other events.

Our mission is to preserve the Town Hall for future generations, while providing a vibrant and inclusive space for the community to come together.
