Our History and Values

Scallywags Pre-School was founded with the goal of providing high-quality early childhood education to children in our community. We are proud to be a Voluntary Management Committee-run pre-school, with a charity status and registered with OFSTED. Our committee members are responsible for the policies of the group, employment of staff, fund-raising, and compliance with any regulations.

Our Governance Structure

Our pre-school is governed by a Voluntary Management Committee, with members elected by parents at our annual general meeting. The committee works closely with our staff to ensure the smooth running of our pre-school and the provision of high-quality care and education for our children. Our Staff

We are proud to have a high ratio of staff to children, ensuring that each child receives the attention and support they need to thrive. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced in early years education, with a deep understanding of child development and learning.

Our Curriculum

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which provides a comprehensive guide for the learning and development of children from birth to five. Our curriculum is carefully planned by our team of qualified and experienced early years workers, ensuring that each child has a quality experience that supports their care, learning, and development. Our curriculum encompasses the six areas of development, including Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

Learning Through Play

At Scallywags Pre-School, we believe that learning is most effective through play. Our environment is designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and imagination, with a wide range of toys, materials, and activities to support children's learning and development. We encourage children to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from their experiences, fostering a sense of resilience and confidence.

Our Community

We are part of the Bolton community, with our pre-school located within the Turton and Edgworth C.E. Methodist Primary School. We are proud to be a part of this close-knit community and strive to build strong relationships with local families and schools.

Admissions Policy

At Scallywags Pre-School, we have an admissions policy in place to ensure fair and transparent allocation of places. We prioritize places based on specific criteria, including existing places, siblings, residency, and date of application. We endeavour to allocate places fairly and consistently, ensuring that each child has an equal opportunity to attend our pre-school.

Gift Shop

In addition to our early childhood education, we also operate a gift shop on site, offering a range of flowers, bouquets, and arrangements for same-day delivery in Bolton. Our gift shop aims to provide a convenient and thoughtful way for families to show they care.
