Welcome to Athelstan Nursery, a leading provider of term-time childcare for children aged 2-5 in Hastings. At Athelstan, we are dedicated to creating a warm, welcoming, and safe environment where children can play, learn, and develop. Our highly qualified and experienced team of early years care professionals are committed to fostering a calm and relaxed atmosphere, ensuring that each child feels happy and secure in our care. All staff are Paediatric first aid trained and have completed child protection training, providing parents with the reassurance that their children are in safe hands.
Our nursery benefits from spacious indoor rooms and a natural outdoor play space, allowing children to freely explore and learn in a stimulating environment. We adopt a free flow approach between the rooms, providing children with the opportunity to engage in both structured play activities and directed group time. This approach supports children's learning and development across all areas of The Early Years Foundation Stage.
At Athelstan, we firmly believe in working closely with parents to promote effective information sharing between home and nursery. We recognise the crucial role that parents play in their children's lives, and we aim to build strong and trusting relationships with each family.
Our Services
We are proud to offer term-time childcare and education for children aged 2-5 years old. Our nursery is open from 8.45 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday. We offer a variety of sessions to suit the needs of each family, including early morning starts, morning sessions, lunch periods, afternoon sessions, and all-day sessions.
All children are entitled to receive EYEE funding for up to 15 hours per week from the term after they turn 3 years old. We also accept funded places for eligible two-year-olds. Eligible families can access up to 30 hours of funding, with information on funding eligibility available on childcarechoices.gov.uk.
In addition to our standard sessions, we offer a variety of additional services, including hourly rates for settling in periods and late collection fees. Please refer to our arrivals and departures policy and safeguarding policy for more information.
Our Curriculum
At Athelstan, we follow The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well, are kept healthy and safe, and have the knowledge and skills they need to start school.
The EYFS focuses on three prime areas of learning: Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These areas are fundamental to ensuring that children develop the key skills they need to access the specific areas of learning, including Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
By focusing on the unique child, positive relationships, and enabling environments, The EYFS supports children's learning and development, ensuring that they are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
