The White Hart Hotel

The White Hart is a charming timbered old coaching inn located in the heart of St Albans, offering value for money accommodation, bar, and Tudors restaurant. Our hotel is one of the oldest buildings in St Albans and is situated opposite the ancient Cathedral and Abbey, making it an ideal location for exploring the city.

Our History

The White Hart Hotel dates back to 1470 and has seen many historic events during its long life. Simon Frazer, the 11th Lord Lovat, stayed at the hotel on his way to become the last person to be beheaded in England. The hotel's charm lies in its architecture, which has been largely preserved in its original condition. Guests are attracted to the hotel by its individual and historic appeal, and therefore should not expect the same stereotyped room specifications of multiple chains.

Our Restaurant and Bar

Tudors restaurant offers fine contemporary dining in an attractive oak-panelled setting, featuring an open log fire during the winter months. Lunch and dinner menus offer a blend of excellent British and Tudor cuisine, freshly prepared using the finest locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant is open seven days a week, and our mouth-watering cuisine changes regularly, accompanied by our well-balanced wine list.

Our bars feature a wide selection of real ales, lagers, wines, spirits, and cocktails in the relaxed surroundings of two period oak-panelled rooms, separated by the central bar. Freshly prepared bar snacks are also available. The hotel bar and restaurant are open to residents and non-residents.

Accommodation

The White Hart Hotel boasts 15 charming, individual bedrooms with free parking in the heart of St Albans city centre. All rooms are ensuite and have tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary sweets, and flat-screen, freeview TVs. Breakfast is available from 7 - 10am Monday to Friday and 8 - 10am Saturday and Sunday.
