Empowered people, leading a fulfilled and meaningful life at home
A Brief Introduction
Valued Lives was born from a deep understanding of the immense struggle individuals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly face with mental health. Established in 2018, we've proudly supported over 7,000 people on their journeys towards wellbeing through Crisis Cafes and the Safe and Supported Return Home Scheme. While it is with deep regret that we must recently relinquish our NHS contracts, our mission to empower individuals continues.
1. Wellbeing Club
The Wellbeing Club is a vibrant network where individuals connect to explore diverse workshops, therapeutic activities, self-care sessions, and outings. This initiative is designed to cultivate a supportive and empowering environment where personal growth and overall wellbeing are prioritized.
2. Crisis Service
Recognizing the importance of timely support, our crisis service offers a crucial lifeline to those facing mental health challenges. Structured in three stages, this service provides:
- One-on-one support: Initial sessions with a trained wellbeing worker to develop an action plan.
- Peer support groups: A safe and understanding space to connect with others facing similar struggles.
- Optional peer mentor programme: Empowering individuals to support others on their journeys.
Our Vision and Values
At Valued Lives, we believe in:
- Empowering people: We strive to provide individuals with the tools and resources they need to take control of their mental health.
- Leading a fulfilled life: We encourage personal growth and meaningful connections within our community.
Our Future
Though our contractual services are evolving, our passion for supporting mental wellbeing remains strong. We are actively exploring new avenues, such as running outdoor programmes, hosting educational groups, and continuing our impactful community projects. Stay tuned for exciting updates!
Valued Lives - A Mixed Bag
Despite having a small number of positive reviews, the majority of the reviews express significant discontent with the service provided by Valued Lives. Poor Treatment of Clients is a recurring theme, with one reviewer describing their experience as a "sick twisted mind game" and accusing staff of ignoring their calls on purpose. Another reviewer similarly felt that staff did not care about their well-being, particularly when they rang in a state of distress.
Lack of Training is another major concern, with one reviewer expressing shock that staff in the mental health field do not possess the necessary training. This lack of expertise is compounded by the fact that staff may not always be equipped to handle the needs of clients, leading to misunderstandings and further distress.
On the other hand, Positive Reviews are limited, but a few reviewers have had positive experiences with Valued Lives. They have praised the staff for being helpful, supportive, and caring, and have appreciated the services provided.
Community Support is highlighted as an important aspect of the service, with one reviewer appreciating the help they received from a lady who sat with them in hospital and helped them get home safely.
Infrastructure is an issue for one reviewer, who complains about the stairs, citing them as the only drawback to an otherwise excellent service.
