The Barnehage Daycare Nursery in Hamilton provides education for children aged six weeks to five years. The Scandinavian Way
At The Barnehage, we believe that the Scandinavian approach to early years education is the right way forward. The Norwegian concept of "Barnehage" literally means "child garden" and is an equivalent of "kindergarten". We have taken this concept and given it our own Scottish interpretation, creating a unique early years education experience.
Our custom-designed nursery in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, has been successfully implementing our ideas since January 2009. Our approach has been praised by education consultant and author Sue Palmer, who has said, "The Scandinavians have got things right with a child-centred, play-based, structured early year's curriculum that concentrates on children's physical, social, linguistic and personal development. It is encouraging to see this model at Hamilton International Park."
Learning Through Play
At the heart of our approach is learning through play. We provide a stimulating and varied nursery life for children by combining active play, outdoor play and experiences, and the Barnehage Curriculum. We believe that children learn best when they are having fun, and we strive to create an environment where they can do just that.
Our staff are dedicated to providing the best possible learning opportunities for every child, and we are proud to be above the National Care Standard Ratio. We have qualified early years practitioners and paediatric first aid trained staff on site to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.
Outdoor Learning
We believe that learning does not have to be confined to the indoors. We are fortunate to have access to an enclosed park area and woodland, and we love to take advantage of the great outdoors. Our staff have specific training in planning for fun and safety when learning outside, and we believe that this provides an invaluable learning experience for children.

We are a partnership nursery with South Lanarkshire Council, and we accept childcare vouchers. We are committed to working closely with parents and families to provide the best possible care and education for every child.

Her daughter has been attending since age 1, and Christina appreciates the lovely staff, various activities for the kids, and the use of the garden area.
