At Muswell Manor, we are proud to be a 16th Century Grade II listed building steeped in unique early aviation history. Our story began in 1540, when the Manor House was first built. However, it wasn't until 1909 that our history took a dramatic turn. This was the year when the Short Brothers constructed their first factory on adjacent land, marking the birthplace of British aviation.
Aviation History
As the First headquarters of the UK Aero Club, Muswell Manor played host to many distinguished pioneer aviators, including C.S. Rolls, J.T.C. Brabazon, the Wright Brothers, and Frank McClean. It was during this time that the first recognised flight by an Englishman and the first circular mile in Britain was flown from our very own grounds by J.T.C. Brabazon.
To commemorate these significant events, we have created a commemorative exhibition in our Bar, showcasing the history of early aviation and the people who made it happen. From the Wright Brothers to the Short Brothers, Muswell Manor was the hub of British aviation's historic events, including the first recognised flight by an Englishman and the first circular mile in Britain.

For your convenience, we offer a range of facilities, including a Bar where you can enjoy a quiet drink and some pub food on the weekends. Dogs and their owners are welcome to enjoy our garden area overlooking the fields. In the winter months, come and enjoy our log fire in the Bar and participate in any pub games we might be hosting.
