Doctors of the World is a non-governmental organization that is dedicated to providing healthcare services to marginalized communities both domestically and internationally. We have been operating for many years, delivering essential medical care and support to those who need it most. Our work is informed by a commitment to upholding international humanitarian law and a belief in the fundamental right of every individual to access healthcare.
Services Offered
At Doctors of the World, we offer a wide range of services designed to empower excluded people to access healthcare. We work on the frontlines of some of the most challenging and volatile situations in the world, providing medical care and support to those affected by conflict, disaster, and poverty. Our services include:
- Emergency Medical Response: We provide emergency medical care and support to those affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and other crises. Our teams are composed of experienced medical professionals who are trained to work in challenging and volatile environments.
- Primary Healthcare: We provide primary healthcare services to marginalized communities who lack access to basic medical care. These services include general medical consultations, vaccinations, and maternal and child health services.
- Health Systems Strengthening: We work to strengthen health systems in the communities where we operate. This includes building the capacity of local healthcare providers, improving infrastructure, and promoting evidence-based healthcare practices.
- Advocacy: We advocate for policies and practices that promote access to healthcare for marginalized communities. This includes advocating for an end to the deliberate targeting of healthcare facilities and personnel in conflict zones.
Current Projects
We are currently engaged in over 350 projects in 80 countries around the world. Here are a few examples of our current work:
- Gaza Strip: We have strongly condemned the deliberate destruction of our offices in Gaza City, which took place a few days ago. This attack is a further demonstration of the blatant violations of international humanitarian law that are taking place on a daily basis in the Gaza Strip.
- UK Mass Asylum Containment Site: We have launched a new service in partnership with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) to provide primary healthcare to people seeking asylum who are accommodated at the former RAF site in Wethersfield, Essex. This marks the first time MSF has extended its reach to those seeking asylum in the UK.
- Open Call to Stop Arms Transfers: We have made an open call to all UN Member States to stop fuelling the crisis in Gaza and avert further humanitarian catastrophe and loss of civilian life. We are calling for an end to arms transfers to Israel and Palestinian armed groups.
