Our History
Shirley Swimming Pool has been a privately owned, public swimming pool since 1974, originally built as a dedicated teaching centre. After a rebuild in 2009, our facilities now offer modern changing rooms, reception, and state-of-the-art water treatment systems. Our main 25-metre pool is available for general swimming and adult lane swimming, while our small hot pool is perfect for public swimming between lessons.

We offer a wide range of services to cater to all ages and abilities:
- Baby Swimming Lessons: Our "First Splash" classes for newborns and their parents lay the foundations for a lifelong enjoyment of the water.
- Toddler Swimming Lessons: Our toddler classes focus on getting your little ones comfortable in the water, safely and with fun, with working towards the Duckling Awards, Water Skills 1, and 5 metres.
- Children Swimming Lessons: Our unique environment provides classes for every age and ability, gently encouraging progression through the learning stages.
- Adult Swimming Lessons: Whether you're an adult beginner or looking to improve your technique, our classes are designed to help you overcome any fears and become a confident swimmer.
- Private Swimming Lessons: One-to-one lessons can accelerate learning and provide an alternative for those who prefer private instruction.
- Swim Club: Our after-school swimming club, Turtles, is the next stage in the lesson programme, with swimmers mastering the four main strokes, invited to join this swimming club.
- Adult Lane Swimming: We reserve 26 hours a week for lane swimming, arranged on a pay-as-you-go basis, with different times and pricing for different age groups.
- Club Championships: An annual event where swimmers from our swim school and club compete against each other in their age groups, perfecting their skills in a competitive atmosphere.
