Empowering young minds, shaping futures

Welcome to Saltdean Pre-School, a place where we value the importance of free play, both inside and outside. Our plans are guided by the interests of all the children, and we believe that encouraging and positive adult interactions are key to scaffolding their learning. We strive to create a safe, fun, and happy environment where children and their families are respected and listened to. Our goal is to support every child in becoming an independent learner and reaching their full potential. We work closely with parents to help shape the future of the Pre-School, and we are proud to be a charity led by a parent committee who meet regularly to share ideas.

A Typical Day at Pre-School

A typical day at Saltdean Pre-School begins at 9.00 with arrival, self-registration, and free play. We offer an optional early start at 8.15 by arrangement. At 9.15, we have an adult-led welcome time that includes singing, signing, speaking, and listening activities. We use repeated language to help children develop their understanding of simple concepts such as days of the week and the weather. From 9.30 to 11.30, children can choose from a variety of activities, including access to the garden whenever possible.

Drop off and Pick up

We understand that drop off and pick up times can be stressful for both children and parents. We aim to make this process as smooth as possible by providing a welcoming and friendly environment. We ask that parents arrive on time for pick up, as this helps us maintain the structure of the day and ensures that all children are safe.

What to Bring

We recommend that children bring a change of clothes, a water bottle, and a healthy snack. Please ensure that all items are clearly labelled with your child's name. We provide cooking activities, so old clothes are recommended. We also recommend that children wear comfortable shoes that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor play.

Snack Time

We provide a healthy snack time during the morning session. We encourage children to develop healthy eating habits and to try new foods. We also provide milk or water to drink.

Info for Parents

We believe that communication is key to building a strong relationship between home and pre-school. We provide regular updates on your child's progress and development. We also have an open-door policy and welcome parents to come and speak to us at any time.

Registration & Settling In

We understand that settling into pre-school can be a daunting experience for both children and parents. We have a comprehensive settling-in process that involves gradual introductions to the pre-school environment. We work closely with parents to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible.

Fees and EYFE Funding

We are registered to receive Early Years Funding for eligible 2, 3, and 4-year-olds. We also accept childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare. Please speak to us for more information.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets the individual needs of every child. We believe that children learn best through play, and our curriculum reflects this.

Key Person

We operate a key person system, which means that each child has a designated member of staff who is responsible for their wellbeing and development. This helps to build a strong relationship between home and pre-school and ensures that every child feels secure and supported.

Calendar

We have a varied calendar of events throughout the year, including trips, visits, and parent workshops. We also celebrate festivals and special occasions.

Ofsted

We are registered with Ofsted and are regularly inspected to ensure that we meet their strict standards. Our most recent inspection report is available to view on the Ofsted website.

Committee

We are led by a parent committee who meet regularly to share ideas and make decisions about the running of the pre-school.

FAQs

We have a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions on our website, which provides more information about our pre-school.

Policies and Forms

Our policies and forms are available to view on our website. We have policies in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every child.
