A Rich History
Henstaff Court, the venue that stands today, was built around the 20th Century and has ties that date back to 1066. The house is located on an ancient farmstead that was the seat of the gentry in the 16th Century. Over the centuries, the lands surrounding Henstaff Court have been owned by many notable figures, including the Herbert Family, the Gabalfa Family, and the Marquis of Bute.
The house was previously situated 300 yards south of the current Henstaff Court, near the original main road. For much of the 20th Century, the Morel Family occupied the property, amassing their wealth through their shipping enterprises. In 1970, the estate was purchased by Larry Ryan as a family home and working farm, but it was later sold in 1986 to Davy Group (Monks) and then taken over by Trafalgar House and Kvaerner. In 1995, the property returned to the Ryan Family, purchased by Laurence Ryan, Larry Ryan's son. The property remained leased to Kvaerner until 1997 when it was transformed into a corporate headquarters. However, with increasing competition from Cardiff City Centre and Cardiff Bay, the focus shifted towards creating a business centre that catered to smaller companies and a conference facility.
