Where Excellence Meets Exmoor

Ralegh's Cross Inn is a privately owned free house situated 1300ft up on the eastern edge of Exmoor National Park. Purchased by the current owners, Graham and Sue, in November 2018, this family-run business takes pride in providing excellent service and hospitality to all who visit. With Graham and Sue overseeing the day-to-day operations, their eldest son Tristan managing the technical side of the business and brand development, and daughter Emma assisting with the redecorating and administration, Ralegh's Cross Inn is a true family affair.

A Rich History

The inn has been a popular pub since the 1850s, originally serving the local miners. The name "Ralegh's Cross" comes from a medieval cross that once served as a landmark on the Brendon Ridgeway. A pillbox, built as part of England's defences against invasion in 1939, still stands 100m west of the inn and is an example of a 'Type 24' Pillbox. The Brazier at Ralegh's Cross is one of a pair, the other situated two miles to the east, placed to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. This historic site is an important and well-known junction on Exmoor and adds to the unique character of the inn.
