Carpet Buying Guide

Choosing a carpet can be a daunting task, which is why we have put together a comprehensive buying guide. Carpet can be made from wool or man-made fibres, and it can be woven or tufted. Tufted carpets are more common and less expensive due to the modern production process. Traditional woven carpets are still available and offer a long lifespan, particularly when made from strong fibres such as wool.

Wool is the most traditional carpet fibre and offers natural bounce, warmth, and cooling properties. It can also be dyed in a variety of colours. When combined with nylon, wool offers exceptional strength, creating an 80/20 mix that is popular in high-quality carpets.

Nylon was the first man-made carpet fibre, and it has come a long way since its early days. It now makes excellent carpets, but it can be hard to find in the UK due to its negative reputation from a generation of old ladies who remember the early, low-quality nylon carpets. Our nylon carpets are mostly polypropylene, the cheapest fibre commonly used in carpet manufacturing. Polypropylene is stain-free and bleach-cleanable, making it a popular choice for those concerned with maintenance.
