Medcalf's is a proud family-run business of wholesale butchers and farmers that has been in operation for over 50 years. Founded in 1964 by two brothers, Jack and Eric Medcalf, who were dairy farmers in Bradford, the business has since evolved to incorporate an abattoir in Brighouse. Jack and Eric's legacy has been carried on by their sons, John and Gerald, who have since passed on the mantle to the third generation of the family - Richard, Johnny, Claire, Rachael, Elizabeth, and Robert. As the fourth generation of the Medcalf family begins to enter the business, the company is building a brand-new, state-of-the-art abattoir facility.
Our History
Medcalf's was founded over half a century ago by Jack and Eric Medcalf, who farmed dairy cattle on Wyke Lane in Bradford. They later took over an abattoir in Brighouse and built the business into what it is today. The company's ethos of family values, commitment to the local community, and dedication to providing high-quality produce has been passed down from generation to generation. Medcalf's has grown into a trusted name throughout Yorkshire, and the wider industry, with a reputation for excellence.

As an EC Licensed approved abattoir and cutting plant, we provide full traceability (farm-to-fork) peace of mind and maintain high animal welfare standards throughout the entire process. We work with a diverse customer base, ranging from local butchers and farm shops to up-and-coming retailers and established catering outlets, from local pubs to national companies.
We specialize in beef, pork, and lamb and can provide whole pigs for hog roasts upon request. We are proud to offer Halal meat options and pre-stunned Halal meat is available upon request. Our Halal meat is produced under strict supervision, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
