Nestled in the picturesque village of Newland, on the western fringes of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, the Ostrich Inn is a family-run 17th Century pub that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere to all. With our charming decor, award-winning ales, and delicious locally-sourced food, we are proud to be one of the best preserved inns of our time. Whether you're a local or just passing through, everyone is welcome to come and enjoy our hospitality.
Our Services
At the Ostrich Inn, we pride ourselves on offering a range of services to make your visit an enjoyable and memorable one. We have a fantastic selection of local ales, ciders, and beers, as well as an extensive wine list and a variety of non-alcoholic options. Our menu features a range of delicious seasonal dishes, using locally sourced ingredients and prepared fresh on site by our experienced chef, Mark. We cater to a variety of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
If you're a dog lover, you'll be pleased to know that we are a dog-friendly pub. We love dogs and provide water bowls, a hose for muddy pups, and free dog treats on the bar. You might even meet our pub mascot, Bertie, the Miniature Schnauzer.
Families are also welcome at the Ostrich Inn. We have high chairs, a toddler chair, and baby change facilities available in our accessible toilet. Kids are welcome to treat our dog with the free treats on the bar, and we provide free lollies on the bar too.
Cyclists and walkers are also well catered for at the Ostrich Inn. We have a beautiful garden that you can use to lock up your bike, and we are working on installing bike racks shortly. We have a range of circular walks available that you can enjoy, and we are located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, so there is plenty to see and do.
Accessibility
We strive to be as inclusive as possible at the Ostrich Inn and will do our best to cater to everyone's needs. Since we are a 17th Century pub with stone steps, wheelchair access can be challenging. However, we have recently undergone a refurbishment and now have an accessible toilet. If you have specific accessibility needs, please give us a call or email us, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Food and Drink
We pride ourselves on using the best locally sourced ingredients to create delicious seasonal dishes. Our menu features a range of veggie, vegan, and gluten-free options, and we aim to cater to everyone's dietary requirements. We have a fantastic selection of locally brewed ales, ciders, and beers, as well as an extensive wine list and a variety of non-alcoholic options. We also have a range of special dishes that change weekly, including fresh fish dishes that may change even more often. Our deserts change weekly, and we have provided a sample menu below.
Opening Times
We are open six days a week, from Wednesday to Monday. Our opening times vary, and we serve food at different times throughout the week. For bookings for more than six people, please email us or give us a call. For all other bookings, please use our online booking system.
Booking Terms and Conditions
We have a range of booking terms and conditions that apply to all bookings. We allow a 15-minute grace period for late arrivals, after which we will regard you as a 'no show'. If you are running late, please call and let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your new arrival time. Bookings for four or more seats require confirmation by provision of card details. Your card details may therefore be taken when booking and stored by the payment provider Stripe as a security deposit in order to reserve your table. No money will be deducted from your account except in the event of a 'no show'. If you cancel with a minimum of 24 hours notice, no fee will be charged. In the event of a 'no show' on a booking of four or more seats, you will be charged a 'no show' fee of 12 (inc VAT) per seat booked. We will only cancel your booking after we have confirmed it if there is an error or omission in the on-line booking system or if it is necessary for us to do so for reasons beyond our reasonable control. Your booking is time-limited. We may require your table for another party after 90 minutes (for bookings of two).
