At Beaver Furniture, we are proud to have been leading the way in high-quality, handmade solid oak furniture for over 60 years. Our story began in 1960 when Colin Almack, a talented craftsman, founded the business. Since then, we have remained committed to our values of craftsmanship, quality, and customer service.
Our History
Our journey began in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, where Colin founded the business and created his iconic "beaver" trademark, which can be found on every piece of furniture we have ever made. In the early 1970s, we relocated to our current home at Beaver Lodge, Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe. Colin's passion for woodworking and furniture making was unmatched, and he took great pleasure in passing on his skills and knowledge to numerous apprentices over the years.
Our Expertise
We take great pride in being one of the few remaining traditional furniture makers in the UK. Our skilled craftsmen and women work predominantly with English Oak (Quercus robur), which is sourced from sustainable managed woodlands or accredited timber merchants. We use traditional techniques, such as hand crafting and air drying, to create beautiful pieces of traditional and contemporary furniture.

Showroom and Customer Service
Visitors are always welcome to come and watch the craftsmen at work and see the furniture on display in our showroom at Beaver Lodge. Our showroom is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and by appointment on Saturdays and Sundays. Our dedicated team is always on hand to offer expert advice and guidance.
Sustainability
We take our responsibilities seriously and take steps to minimize our environmental impact. We source our timber from sustainable managed woodlands, and our local sawmill cuts the felled oak trees into planks, which are then air dried at Beaver Lodge.

Our Managing Director, David Glegg, has been carrying on the tradition of excellence in furniture making for over 20 years. We were delighted to be nominated as a finalist in the prestigious Welcome to Yorkshire "White Rose Awards" in 2016, recognizing our commitment to excellence and customer service.
