Sleaford's Museum of local history, situated in a purpose-built building, houses a collection of artefacts and stories that provide a captivating insight into the town and area's distinctive past. The ever-changing exhibitions in the vibrant interior consistently receive high praise from visitors. While entrance is free, donations are highly valued and essential for covering costs and funding new exhibitions. A variety of local history books, booklets, postcards, pens, and key-rings can be bought. The Museum operates as a completely volunteer-run organisation and a registered charity. Donations are greatly appreciated. Since its inception in 2015, the Museum has welcomed over 20000 visitors who have joined us in celebrating Sleaford's unique stories.
Exhibitions and Events
In 2024, Sleaford Museum hosts an exciting new exhibition, 'Sleaford Castle Uncovered', at Navigation House, lasting for a year. The Museum offers a selection of events and activities for visitors of all ages. Among the most recent is 'A Walk Down Memory Lane: Into Sleaford from the East', a book that is highly sought after and available for purchase from the Museum during opening hours. Another popular title is the 'Sleaford Celebrating Fifty' book, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Sleaford Town Council and can be downloaded as a PDF or purchased as a soft-backed copy.
The Museum hosts an annual general meeting (AGM), with the upcoming one taking place on Tuesday, 28th May 2024, following a talk by Dr Erik Grigg on 'Viking Lincolnshire'. Relevant papers for the AGM are available for download.
Visitor Information
The Museum is open on Monday (12.30-3pm), Wednesday (10-3pm), Friday (10am-12.30), and Saturday (10-3pm). A suggested logical route around the Museum is marked by tape and floor markings. Visitors may wear a face covering during their visit if they wish, and hand sanitiser is provided for use. Eating or drinking within the Museum is not permitted. Local history books, booklets, and postcards are available for purchase from the volunteers. Card payment or cash payment can be used for any purchases. Donations are encouraged and can be made via the card machine, Donorbox (instructions are displayed in the Museum), or using Gift Aid envelopes. Artefact donations are welcomed; kindly place any items in a plastic bag and hand them to a volunteer.
