"Boldness is sometimes rewarded." - Rebecca Hossack

This year, we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, which has earned a global reputation for innovation, individuality, energy, and excellence. Since our inception in 1988, we have been a pioneer in exhibiting Non-Western artistic traditions, with a particular focus on indigenous art from around the world. We are proud to have been the first art gallery in Europe to showcase Australian Aboriginal painting, a tradition we continue to promote through our regular Songlines seasons.

Rebecca Hossack, the gallery's founder, has been a tireless advocate for indigenous artists, bringing their work to new audiences and providing a platform for their unique voices. In addition to Australian Aboriginal art, we have curated influential exhibitions of work from the Bushmen of the Kalahari, Papua New Guinea, and tribal India. These presentations have introduced many to the rich artistic heritage of these cultures, which may have otherwise remained unseen in the UK.

Our commitment to inclusiveness extends beyond Non-Western traditions. We proudly exhibit a diverse range of Western Contemporary Art, representing painters, sculptors, ceramicists, printmakers, and more. We champion individuality, spirit, innovation, technical accomplishment, and beauty, working against the dominant currents of the modern art scene. Our roster of artists includes Carla Kranendonk, David Whitaker, Mersuka Dopazo, Emma Haworth, Barbara Macfarlane, Ross Bonfanti, Avital Sheffer, Phil Shaw, and Rose Blake, amongst others.
