*Crown Lifting & Crown Reduction*

Crown lifting and crown reduction are highly skilled areas of tree surgery. Crown lifting involves removing the lower branches of a tree to effectively raise the crown to a given height. This is achieved by removing whole branches or parts of branches that extend below the desired height, with the branches typically not lifted to more than one-third of the tree's total height. Crown lifting is particularly useful for large garden trees where shading is a problem, as it allows more light to come in underneath the tree. It is also carried out for access purposes, allowing traffic and pedestrians to pass underneath safely.

Crown reduction is the process of making the crown of a tree smaller without damaging its overall shape.
