At First Steps at Cansfield, we are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for children from 6 weeks to 11 years old. Our purpose-built nursery in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, offers separate play areas for different age groups, ensuring that each child receives the care and attention they need to develop and thrive.
We believe that every child is unique, and we aim to provide them with the opportunity to develop in their own way. Our activities are planned to reflect a multi-cultural and anti-discriminatory perspective, promoting equality and diversity. We work closely with parents, staff, and other agencies to create an active and close partnership, ensuring that each child receives the best possible care.
Our nursery has a large pre-school room that accommodates up to 32 children aged 3-5 years, and a birth to three unit that accommodates up to 19 children aged 6 weeks to 3 years. We offer free funded places for 2, 3, and 4-year-olds and try to offer sessions on a flexible basis, allowing parents the freedom to choose sessions that suit their individual needs. However, we must adhere to strict ratios, which may limit our flexibility at times.
All children enjoy dining together each day in our separate dining room. We have our own kitchen and cook, which means we can easily meet any individual dietary needs of children, ensuring that foods are prepared in a way that children do not feel different from their peers.
We provide full-time and part-time sessions, and flexible delivery for children who are in receipt of 2, 3, and 4-year-old government funding places. Places are allocated according to individual needs and can be term-time only or stretched if the parent needs more weeks.
In addition to our nursery services, we also provide Out of School care for children aged 3-11 years, including breakfast club, afterschool club, and holiday care. These services run for 51 weeks each year and are based at R L Hughes primary school.
