to love and serve one another
St. John's Catholic Primary School is a one form entry school situated in the heart of Rotherhithe, offering a distinctive contribution to every child's education. We are a small, friendly school, with high expectations for all children, providing a warm and caring environment for all children in our school. Our aim is to give every child the opportunity to achieve their full potential and our motto is "to love and serve one another."
At St. John's, we recognise the importance of the home and school partnership. We have excellent transport links to Canada Water (our nearest tube station), and we strive to foster a strong sense of community amongst our staff, pupils, parents, and governors.
Our Services
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, preparing our pupils for their future roles in society through carefully planned and engaging learning opportunities, both within and outside the classroom. Our services include:
- Nursery & Reception: Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) starts with our Nursery and Reception classes. We focus on providing a happy and safe environment for your child, where they can learn, play and develop confidence and independence.
- Key Stage 1 & 2: Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all our pupils through engaging topics and real-life experiences. We promote the physical, emotional, and spiritual development of our children. We want our pupils to be confident, enthusiastic learners, who are able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Green Flag: We are proud to be a Green Flag school, promoting sustainability and the environment. Our children develop a range of skills through teaching and learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, which are related to the key topics of litter, energy, waste, biodiversity, transport, and water.
- Learning Curriculum: Our curriculum is designed to ensure that all our pupils excel and achieve in all areas of the curriculum. We promote academic, creative, emotional, social, and spiritual development. We use innovative teaching strategies and resources to deliver the curriculum effectively.
- Overview & Progression: Our curriculum is designed to promote progression and depth in learning. We have an agreed format for organizing the curriculum and for providing continuity in what our children learn.
- Curriculum Newsletters: We continuously update our parents about their child's learning through parent workshops and curriculum newsletters. This helps parents engage in their child's learning.
- Home Learning Resources: We offer a range of resources that parents can use at home to help their child learn.
- Catholic Life: As a Catholic school, we actively promote British Values through our Catholic faith and the Gospel values. We teach RE through the "Come and See" Programme.
Our school is more than just a place of academic learning. We want all our children to develop a lifelong love for learning, where they feel safe, respected, and valued. We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our community.
