Preserving the beauty of the Lake District, one rug at a time.
The Woolly Rug Co. is a bespoke floor rug, runner, and tapestry design and crafting business, established in 1999 by Jane Exley in the heart of the Lake District. Our studio, situated on the outskirts of Ambleside, by the River Rothay, is where every rug is carefully created, from the initial stages of design and patterning to a meticulous hand-tufting process.
Our Unique Approach
At The Woolly Rug Co., we take pride in combining form and function to create rugs that are not only visually stunning but also extremely long-lasting. Our designs are inspired by the breathtaking Lakeland landscape, capturing the essence of nature's beauty in every fibre. We believe in the importance of sustainability and strive to reduce our carbon footprint in every aspect of our business.
Our Commitment to the Environment
As an ethical studio, we are dedicated to treading lightly on the earth. We recycle all waste wool, use biodegradable materials sourced locally whenever possible, and ensure that all electricity used is from Ecotricity, Britain's greenest renewable energy company. We are constantly exploring opportunities to further reduce our environmental impact.
Our Passion for Herdwick Wool
Herdwick wool, a natural and renewable resource, is at the heart of our business. This unique fibre is not only hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial but also has excellent sound insulation and fire-retardancy properties. We believe in the importance of preserving this valuable resource and promoting its uses to ensure its sustainability for future generations.
