Our Story

Founded on trust, transparency, and motivation, Smartway Pharmaceuticals is a company that values human centred approach. Our story begins with an old-fashioned pharmacy in Battersea, where Mrs Elliot, a lady who understood the importance of trust and motivation, ran the business. After Mrs Elliot retired, Hitu Patel, a young entrepreneur, had the opportunity to take over the pharmacy. With his commitment, drive, and desire to give every patient an exceptional level of service, Patel was determined to build his own pharmacy business. With the help of Mrs Elliot, Patel was able to start his business, and Smartway Pharmaceuticals was born.

Our History

In 1942, our journey began as a community pharmacy in Battersea, London. Over the years, Smartway has expanded its operations, establishing subsidiaries in India, the UAE, and more recently, Ireland. Today, we're proud to give customers, partners, and patients the same care and quality worldwide. Our history is marked by milestones such as:

• 1992: Hitu Patel acquires the Pharmacy
• 1994: International supply starts
• 1996: Supply of Comparators and RLD
• 2001: Sexual Health Supply commences
• 2006: Supply to Aid Dev sectors starts
• 2008: Operations in India opened
• 2014: Global HQ moved to Wimbledon, London
• 2018: Operations in Kosovo commence
• 2021: Smartway Ireland opens

Comparator/RLD Supply

We support manufacturers, CROs and CDMOs with supply of comparator, RLDs, samples and biosimilar samples.

Early Access Programs (EAP)

We'll partner with innovative Pharma and Biotech companies to design and manage global Early Access, Expanded Access, Named Patient and Compassionate Use Programs.

Hospital & Pharmacy Supply

Thanks to our global sourcing network, we supply products that are in shortage, unlicensed medicines, imported medicines, specials, and not yet launched medicines to hospitals, pharmacies, and globally.

International Supply & Unlicensed Imports

We source and distribute on a global basis, supplying branded and generic pharmaceuticals not otherwise available in your country. We also supply a range of unlicensed medicines to hospitals and healthcare professionals in the UK, UAE, and globally.

Sexual Health Supply

We support UK hospitals and sexual health clinics with pharmaceuticals and medical disposables.

Specialist Distribution

We work with Pharma and Biotech companies to deliver specialist distribution services. We operate in therapeutic and geographic areas that need specialist expertise.
