Eat, drink, and enjoy the art of living

Welcome to German Gymnasium, a distinctive dining destination located in the vibrant heart of King's Cross. Our historic building, designed by Edward Gruning, was England's first purpose-built gymnasium and hosted London's first indoor Olympic Games in 1866. Today, the venue has been carefully restored and divided into three sections, each offering a unique dining experience.

The ground floor of our establishment is home to the Grand Cafe, which offers a delightful selection of German and Mittel-European dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our first floor hosts the Restaurant, where a sophisticated seasonal menu takes diners on a journey through lesser-known aspects of German cuisine. Sharing the first floor with the Restaurant is the Meister Bar, a chic and elegant cocktail destination inspired by the evening glamour of Berlin.

German Gymnasium is proud to be a part of D&D London, a renowned collection of more than 40 diverse restaurants, bars, and one hotel. Situated primarily in London, with additional locations in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Paris, and New York, D&D London's sister venues include 14 Hills, Quaglino's, Le Pont de la Tour, Coq d'Argent, and Michelin-starred restaurant Angler.
