Our Story
Since 1900, Louis Mann and Son Ltd has been a staple of the Jewish community in Edgware, providing high-quality Kosher meat products to families for special occasions and daily meals. Our journey began with Emmanuel Schnaiderman, who arrived in the UK in the late 19th century, fleeing persecution and seeking a better life. With just the clothes on his back and a determination to succeed, Manny Schnaiderman built a thriving business, eventually opening a shop in Hackney with his sons. Louis, the eldest son, went on to open his own shop in Victoria Park Road, Hackney, where the family lived above the shop. During World War II, the family evacuated to Reading, and Louis would make the difficult journey to London to tend to his customers and supply the meat markets.
After the war, Louis decided to close the Hackney shop and relocate to our current location in Edgwarebury Lane. With the influx of Jewish families moving out of the city centre, Louis saw an opportunity to serve the growing community in Edgware. In 1955, we opened our doors to become the first Kosher butcher to adopt the self-service model, introducing cabinets filled with pre-packaged meat and poultry.
Over the years, we have continued to grow and adapt, expanding our premises in the 1980s to accommodate a larger shop floor and increased preparation areas to cater to the ever-growing Jewish community. Today, we remain committed to providing the finest quality meats, expertly prepared and koshered to the highest standards.

Disappointing Experiences
Several customers have expressed disappointment with their experiences at Mann's. Sue Gold, who rated the butcher 2 stars, was angry to find fat cut from lamb chops placed under the chops from her previous purchase, and was charged for it. Beverley Green, who gave a 1-star review, found the staff to be rude and unapproachable, and felt that there are better-quality Kosher butchers nearby.
Mixed Views on Quality and Service
While some customers have praised the quality and service at Mann's, others have had mixed experiences. Chad Greenblatt, who rated the butcher 4 stars, found the store to be old-fashioned and in need of a refurbishment, but appreciated the reliability and old-fashioned charm of the butcher. M. Gee, who also gave a 4-star review, found the meats to be of good quality but a bit pricey, while Matthew Yeager, who gave a 5-star review, praised the butcher for its commitment to quality and kashrut.
Overwhelmingly Positive Feedback
However, the majority of customers have had overwhelmingly positive experiences at Mann's. Dave The Rave, Jason Edison, and Sonya Bilyak all gave 5-star reviews, praising the variety of meats, friendly staff, and helpful advice. Robin Spence, who also gave a 5-star review, found the lamb Chop to be the best he had ever tasted. Moto G, who gave a 4-star review, praised the butcher's chopped liver as the best he had ever found.
