Our History
The Goring Hotel was founded by Jeremy Goring's great-grandfather, Otto Goring, who had a vision to create a luxurious hotel in the prestigious area of Belgravia. After acquiring a plot of land and demolishing a public house and several cottages, the path was cleared for the construction of the hotel. The Goring Hotel officially opened its doors on March 2, 1910, featuring en suite facilities and central heating in each of its bedrooms - a world-first at the time.
Throughout its history, The Goring has played host to numerous historic events. During World War I, the Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces was based at the hotel. During World War II, Winston Churchill held meetings with allied leaders in the Silver Room, while the Polish army in exile was stationed upstairs. In more recent times, The Goring Hotel has undergone extensive renovations to maintain its position as one of London's finest hotels.
