Empowering young minds, shaping the future!

At Wingrave Pre-School, we are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment that allows children to grow and develop at their own pace. Our purpose-built setting, rated GOOD by Ofsted, offers a safe and engaging space for children to learn and thrive.

Our Approach

We believe that children learn best through play, and our highly qualified and dedicated staff provide a carefully planned and tailored programme of activities that cater to the individual needs and interests of each child. Our curriculum is designed to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, focusing on seven areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Maths, Literacy, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We strive to create an environment where children become eager to explore new learning opportunities. We encourage them to take an active part in solving simple practical problems and to initiate ideas, persevere in their learning, and develop confidence and self-respect. We also provide opportunities for children to share and take turns fairly, express their feelings, and develop an understanding of what is right and wrong.

Physical Development

Gross motor skills will develop through well-planned physical activities in our playground, which will provide opportunities for children to climb, run, and play freely. Fine motor skills will be developed through the use of various tools and toys, such as construction materials, scissors, and paintbrushes.

Communication and Language

We encourage children to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas to adults and peers, and participate in speaking and listening activities. We use songs, rhymes, and stories to encourage repetition, rhythm, and rhyme, and model building sentences to extend vocabulary and give children thinking time to initiate discussion.

Literacy

We provide a wide range of rhymes, poetry, stories, and non-fiction books for children to share and enjoy. We also offer the opportunity for emergent writing in role-play activities and learn that writing has many different purposes.

Maths

We introduce children to number rhymes, songs, and stories, and provide opportunities to play with sorting materials, number vocabulary, and mathematical equipment such as weighing scales and calculators. We also use everyday words to describe relative position and encourage children to use mathematical language when playing and solving problems.

Understanding the World

We ensure that children progress through a programme that is shaped by their interests and the seven areas of learning. We also share stories and information about the world around them, and encourage children to ask questions and seek answers through group and individual activities.

Our Facilities

Our purpose-built setting features a large, open-plan room, a spacious outside area, and a variety of play areas that provide opportunities for children to learn and explore. Our facilities include a fully UV canopied asphalt area, grass and wood chipped area, picnic area, mud kitchen, and flower/seed garden, as well as a brand-new Dino world.
