Explore Mersea Island
Mersea Island, one of Britain's best-kept secrets for many years, has a growing reputation amongst foodies, watersports fans, walkers, and families wanting a simpler, more relaxed family holiday. With beautiful views over the Blackwater Estuary, Mersea has a rich history of farming, fishing, and boating. Oysters have been harvested off the island since Roman times, and there are several restaurants, pubs, and cafes on the island that offer locally caught seafood.
Mersea Island is the most easterly inhabited island in Great Britain, and it has a wealth of things to see and do. Whether you're interested in watersports, walking, or simply relaxing on the beach, Mersea Island has something for everyone. We recommend exploring the island by bike or on foot, taking in the stunning scenery, and discovering the many hidden gems that Mersea has to offer.
