Celestial Jewellery Inspired by Northumberland's Dark Skies
Established in 2014, Dark Skies Jewellery was founded by artist Dianne Fox following a commission from Northumberland Tourism to create a product range celebrating the county's Gold Star Dark Sky status. Our collection showcases miniature high-resolution NASA images of celestial phenomena, encapsulated beneath glass cabochons in silver-plated settings. Each piece combines artistic craftsmanship with scientific wonder, accompanied by educational details to inspire appreciation for the cosmos.

Our work is rooted in Northumberland's unique nocturnal environment, offering visitors and astronomy enthusiasts tangible connections to the universe's beauty. We maintain a studio at Kirkharle Courtyard, where customers can observe our creative process and purchase directly from the maker.

Questions
What inspires your jewellery designs?
Our designs originate from NASA's high-resolution space imagery, featuring celestial objects within Northumberland's Gold Star Dark Sky Reserve. Each piece reflects astronomical phenomena visible from our location.
How are your products made?
We print NASA astrophotography onto archival paper, protect them with glass cabochons, and set them in nickel-free silver-plated bases. This process preserves image clarity while creating wearable art pieces.
Do you offer custom orders?
While we specialise in existing designs, customers can request specific celestial imagery preferences. Our Kirkharle Courtyard studio allows direct discussion with the artist about potential customisation options.
What educational value do your products have?
Each item includes NASA reference details and photographic cards explaining the astronomical subject. This connects decorative pieces to scientific understanding of galaxies, nebulae and planetary formations.
Can I visit your workshop?
Yes, we operate from Kirkharle Courtyard where customers can observe the jewellery-making process. Our studio is open during regular trading hours, except Mondays and Tuesday bank holidays.
How long do orders take to process?
Handmade orders require 3-5 working days for creation before Royal Mail first-class delivery. Custom requests may require additional discussion to determine production timelines.
