OUR STORY

Cranmers has a long and storied history within the community. Our building and practice have been a familiar and trusted presence in Minehead for many years. From humble beginnings as a bank, to providing jewellery and watch repairs, our practice has evolved and grown to meet the changing needs of our patients.

Our founding optician, H.E Cranmer, established the practice in 1908. He was committed to providing a complete and thorough examination for every patient, regardless of income. This philosophy has been at the heart of our practice ever since, and is still reflected in our commitment to providing the highest quality care to all our patients.

Over the years, the practice has seen many changes and additions. Mr Cranmer's daughter married Mr Pickford, who joined the practice and worked in partnership with Mr Askew for the next 30 years. Mr Gaylard also joined the practice as a partner, but sadly passed away at a young age.

In 1969, Mr Derek Webb joined the practice and formed a partnership with Mr Melhuish, which lasted until Mr Webb's retirement in 2004. Mrs Melhuish, also an optician, joined the practice in 1984, further strengthening our commitment to providing expert eye care services.

Today, Cranmers continues to be a trusted and respected name in eye care. Our team of experienced and qualified optometrists, dispensing opticians, and support staff are dedicated to providing the highest quality care and attention to our patients. We use the latest technology and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable eye examinations, and we offer a wide range of eyewear to suit all needs and budgets.
