Services Offered

At Extra Help Counselling & Psychotherapy, we offer both short and long-term counselling/therapy sessions for individuals and couples dealing with a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • Problems with relationships
  • Persistent sadness, tearfulness, or upset
  • Feeling stuck in life, work, or relationships
  • Expectations placed on you by others
  • Difficulty coping or managing emotions
  • Depression and depressive symptoms
  • Stress and anger management issues
  • Challenges with assertiveness or self-expression
  • Difficulties with self-image and self-esteem
  • Struggles with identity or personal growth

Our counselling approach is tailored to each client's unique needs and goals. We focus on the client's current situation, conversations, and patterns and work together to explore practical ways to navigate challenges and make positive changes. This may involve discussing present issues, making sense of them, or experimenting with alternative ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Our psychotherapy approach goes a step deeper, involving a longer-term commitment to uncovering and addressing the underlying patterns of thought, feeling, and behaviour that are hindering your progress and growth. It often involves exploring your past and understanding the impact of childhood experiences and relationships on your present life. By increasing self-awareness, you can create opportunities to change limiting patterns and cultivate more fulfilling relationships and experiences.

Fees and Scheduling

Our standard fees for individual counselling/therapy sessions are 55 per session, and 65 for couples. The initial consultation fee is 25 for individuals and 30 for couples. We understand that fees can sometimes be a barrier to receiving support, and we encourage clients to discuss any financial concerns they may have. We are open to offering some flexibility to ensure that our services are accessible to all who need them.

Dr. Elton is available for appointments Tuesdays to Fridays, with sessions starting from 8:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm. Availability may vary from time to time, so we recommend contacting us to discuss your preferred appointment time.

Location

Extra Help Counselling & Psychotherapy is based in central Edinburgh, within ten minutes' walk from Waverley Station. We also offer online sessions through Zoom/FaceTime, providing an accessible option for clients who prefer the convenience and flexibility of remote therapy.
