Empowering Industry Professionals with Unbiased Information

I am Michael Day, a qualified and experienced counsellor providing services in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space. I am committed to providing warmth and support, allowing you to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours, as well as any aspect of your life that may be causing you difficulties. I am experienced in supporting clients with relationships, mental health, anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem, bereavement, substance use, and more. I am here to help you, regardless of whether you have a specific issue or a general feeling of being unfulfilled.

The Power of Counselling

At times, we all need the support of another person. While family and friends can provide this, there are times when they cannot, or when we feel that we cannot turn to them. Talking to a trained counsellor in confidence can be incredibly beneficial. Counselling provides a space where you can explore your feelings and thoughts openly, and where you are truly heard. It can help you understand yourself and your experiences better, and can facilitate healing and growth.

My Approach

My approach to counselling is warm, accepting, and adaptable. I look at thinking, feeling, and behaviour, tailoring my approach to your personal needs. I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel secure and empowered to explore and change whatever is causing you difficulty. I am a member of COSCA, Scotland's professional body for counselling and psychotherapy, and adhere to their code of ethics.

Services Offered

I offer counselling for individuals and couples, with sessions typically lasting 60 minutes for individuals and 90 minutes for couples. I understand that counselling can be a significant investment, and I am committed to making my services accessible. I offer a limited number of low-rate spaces for those with limited resources.

About Me

I initially trained at Telford College in Edinburgh, where I gained an HNC in counselling. I then trained in Transactional Analysis with a psychotherapy speciality at the Physis Training, where I gained the COSCA validated diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling. I have also completed additional academic work, leading to a postgraduate diploma in Transactional Analysis counselling by Queen Margaret University Edinburgh.

I have extensive experience working as a mentor and counsellor in various settings, including Health in Mind, EICP's Low Cost Counselling Scheme, Crossreach Counselling Lothian, and Simpson House Counselling. I have also worked in further education, assisting people with various types of learning impairments to access further education.

Locations

I provide counselling services at two locations in Edinburgh: The Tara Trust and the South Side Centre. Both locations are easily accessible by public transport. The Tara Trust is located in the heart of Edinburgh, just a few minutes' walk from Haymarket train station and the Haymarket tram stop. The South Side Centre is located in Causewayside and is a five-minute walk from Newington Road via West Newington Place.

Substance Use

I have a deep interest in people's use of substances and have worked in this field for many years. I have gained a wide range of experiences from both my personal life and my work. As a Transactional Analyst Counsellor, I have a unique set of tools that can support you to explore and change your relationship with alcohol, drugs, or any other substance. Whether your goal is abstinence, control, or more understanding of the consequences, I believe we can work together to help you achieve your goal.
