History of The Athenaeum
Learn more about the history of The Athenaeum, dating back to the late 18th century when Liverpool played a key role in the wars with France. At that time, information was scarce and newspapers were often scarce and noisy. The need for a congenial space for commercial and political information, free from the distractions of the coffee houses, led to the establishment of The Athenaeum.
