Experiential Hospitality at its Finest
At the heart of Liverpool's Sefton Park lies a hidden gem, the Sefton Park Palm House, a breathtakingly beautiful Grade 2* listed building that has been captivating visitors for over a century. This stunning palace of glass and steel, designed by John Towill Brewill, opened its doors to the public in 1896 and has since become a beloved symbol of Liverpool's rich cultural heritage.
A Brief History of the Palm House
The Sefton Park Palm House was a gift to the city of Liverpool by local benefactor Henry Yates Thompson. As a testament to his philanthropy, Thompson's donation became a hub for the community, attracting visitors from far and wide to marvel at the exotic plants from around the world. For many years, the Palm House was a popular attraction, entertaining and educating the masses about the wonders of the natural world. However, after falling into disrepair in the 1990s, the Palm House was left to ruin.
The Restoration
Thanks to a public campaign and multi-million pound restoration, the Palm House reopened its doors to the public in 2001, marking a new chapter in its history. The Palm House Preservation Trust, a registered charity, was established in 1996 to oversee the development and management of the building. The Trust employs a team of staff and relies on volunteers and casual event assistants to help maintain the Palm House as a heritage tourist attraction and cultural events centre.
