Our History
Pax Hill Care Home has a rich history, dating back to 1918 when it was once the residence of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movement. The property, known as Blackacre, was owned by the Baden-Powells from 1918 to 1938. During their time at the house, they renamed it Pax Hill, adding two wings, including the west wing designed by Robert Baden-Powell himself. In 1939, the Baden-Powells moved to Kenya, and in 1941, Robert Baden-Powell passed away. The property was occupied by Canadian military troops during World War II, after which it was awarded to the Girl Guides Association to be used as a center for members from the Commonwealth of Nations. The home was eventually sold in 1953 to its current owners, who converted it into a residential and nursing home in 1988.
